Electric Meadow at UMOCA’s Annual Art Auction
Hello Friends,
Tomorrow evening I'll be participating in the annual gala at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art. The event is one of the museum's largest fundraisers of the year and brings together artists, collectors, and supporters of contemporary art for a memorable evening.
This year's celebration explores a playful and unconventional vision of the American West—one that embraces imagination, transformation, and a touch of the unexpected. It promises to be a fun and inspiring night in support of the museum's exhibitions and community programs.
I'm honored to have my painting, Electric Meadow, included in the auction. If you'd like to wander through the meadow and place a bid, you can find it here:

Thank you for your support. It means so much to me and to the organizations that help keep the arts thriving in our community.
Warmly,
Janell James
“Electric Meadow”, 24” x 24” Spray Paint on Board
Inspired by the immersive floral landscapes of Gustav Klimt, Electric Meadow transforms the garden into an experience rather than a literal depiction. Built through layers of spray paint, the work emphasizes atmosphere and sensation over clearly defined forms.
Fields of vibrant color gather and dissolve across the surface, while vertical elements hint at structure without fully revealing it. The landscape remains in flux—emerging, shifting, and receding all at once.
Created within the spirit of Acid West, the painting explores how our experience of place is shaped by light, memory, and imagination. As familiar forms dissolve, color becomes the primary language of perception.
Like an afterimage lingering in the mind, Electric Meadow invites viewers into a fleeting and immersive space that resists easy definition.
