"Wild Flowers - Homage to Kathryn Woodman Leighton" Now Collected
It is always with great pleasure when I get to share with you, a painting of mine has been collected. It is one of the highest honors as an artist and very humbling, indeed.
Many thanks to Anne and Roy Jespersen and Anne Jespersen Fine Arts for adding “Wild Flowers - Homage to Kathryn Woodman Leighton” to their personal collection. This is the first painting in my wild flower series. See below for a short story as well as the original painting by Kathryn Woodman Leighton that inspired me to paint this multi-layered acrylic painting.
“Janell’s contemporary interpretation of Kathryn Woodman Leighton’s wildflower painting is original and fresh. The unique use of materials, the vibrant colors and reflections takes us into the 21st century with bold confidence.”
“Wild Flowers - Homage to Kathryn Woodman Leighton”, 17” x 17” Acrylic on Multi-Pane Acrylic Glass
Kathryn Woodman Leighton “…painted in Montana every summer and these are the flowers she would have found wild, growing everywhere. The beautiful blue crockpot is used as a vase for the Indian Paintbrush, wild Lupine, Black Eyed Susans, Blue Aster and Larkspur. The flowers comprise the primary colors, red, blue, and yellow with secondary colors of green and purple to fill in the spaces. For an artist, this must be a luscious subject to paint. The bouquet’s composition is not even, it was a spontaneous arrangement. It is not overthought or too well considered, which gives it authenticity and freedom from pretense, much the same as the flowers themselves. They are wild and enjoy an uncultivated existence.”
~Donna L. Poulton, Ph.D.
“A celebrated Indian portrait and landscape painter, Kathryn Woodman Leighton created panoramic landscapes especially big scenes of glaciers. Having been told about Glacier National Park by Charles Russell, Kathryn spent much time in that region beginning in 1922. Also doing floral still life and landscapes, she repeatedly depicted her favorite subject, which was the desert in bloom.”

"Looking Up" - Things Definitely Are!
Wow! What a couple of great weeks. Summer Solstice is almost upon us and things are definitely looking up. The gratitude I feel for the many art collectors and art lovers supporting visual arts, and my personal artwork, is both empowering and humbling as an artist. Thank you for taking your time to peruse my newsletter each week and for showing an interest in my creations!
“Looking Up” found a home here in Salt Lake City, UT this past week with thanks to Forsey’s Fine Furniture and their team of local designers. This lovely grouping of Aspen trees can be found on a hike at the top of Millcreek Canyon. I always love my time in the mountains among these gentle giants. Hearing their leaves jingle like a type of foliage currency fills my soul bank as the wind moves these trees unanimously to and fro. Nature is a source of meditation and calming peace for my mind.
I hope in the coming days you can find yourself amongst the trees, taking some time to listen to what they have to say as they jingle and sway.
Cheers and Happy Summer Solstice!

“I am so pleased to have the opportunity to house these new pieces from Janell. Their beauty and vibrancy immediately hit me. These joint pieces will be the center of excitement in our home.”
Goofing Around In The Studio.
Obviously inspired by my inner hippy child…
The process of making art is not only a collaboration between the artist and the art, it can also be a collaborative effort between the collector and the art itself. One of the wonderful gifts of these abstract paintings is that they can be arranged in 16 different combinations allowing for collaborative freedom and reset within an interior room at any time. I love this! Every artist has a preferred way of displaying art but these fun pieces come with options and they all have appeal.
I am so grateful for this collaboration and the collection of these works into a wonderful home!
Thank you, Zeke!
